Whether taking a long walk on the beach, snuggling in a lounge chair with a good book, or experiencing new sights and sounds, vacation is best enjoyed with the ones you love—especially the four-legged variety. And from weekend excursions to long holidays, traveling with your cat or dog has never been easier. These helpful pointers will show you how.

WHERE TO STAY
Pet-friendly accommodations are available in most popular vacation destinations. When selecting a hotel or motel, factor in the proximity of animal-friendly beaches, parks, and restaurants with outdoor seating. And if you’re planning to bring a house bound pet on vacation, a longer stay in a rented house is generally most comfortable for him or her.

Travel Tricks
Whichever type of accommodation you chose, be sure you understand its pet policies completely before booking your stay. While some accommodations label themselves “Pet Friendly”, this can mean different things. Some establishments, for example, charge extra if you bring a pet, and some don’t allow pets to be left unattended. If customer reviews are available, read up to hear what others think.

HOW TO GET THERE
If taking a bus, plane, or train, check with the company’s regulations for traveling with pets, including its container requirements and whether or not you need to make a special reservation for your companion. If taking a car, be sure to clear enough space for your pet’s comfort and provide a method of securing your pet for safe travel whether by harness or crate.

Travel Tricks
Airline carriers have specific requirements for animal travel, so be sure to check with yours well in advance of your trip. In most cases, your pet will need proof of up-to-date vaccinations. Some airlines require a heath certificate signed by your USDA-certified veterinarian clearing your pet for travel. Before leaving for any trip, protect your four-legged friend with FRONTLINE® Plus. It’s the veterinarian’s number one choice in flea and tick protection, and just one dose works fast and lasts all month long. Plus, it’s waterproof. ON THE DAY OF TRAVEL
Feed your pet four hours before time of departure. Then be sure to take him or her on a long walk just before leaving. And don’t forget to double check that you’ve packed your pet’s essentials using the checklist below.

Travel Tricks
Whether your pet is a seasoned traveler or a first-timer, practice his or her travel method in advance so the sensation isn’t new on travel day. If your cat or dog will be crated, let him or her spend some time in it with a favorite toy. If traveling by car, take your pet on a couple of short trips in the days leading up to departure.
